kirin Ichiban of Japan
Kirin Brewing Company of Japan produces and sells two of the most popular beers in the country Kirin Lager and Ichiban Shibori. In the early days William Copeland, a naturalized U.S. citizen of Norwegian descent, sailed to Yokohama in 1864 in hopes to make his fortune there. The brewing industry was taking off so he decided to open up the Spring Valley Brewery because Japan had no brewing industry at the time. Copeland wasn't able to keep the brewery open due to lack of money and was forced to shut it down. A year later W.H Talbot and E. Abbot teamed up with two Japanese businessmen Yonosuke Lwasaki and Elichi Shibusawa to reopen Mr. Copelands brewery, by 1888 all the beer took the Kirin label. Copeland died in 1901 and to this day employees who work at the Kirin brewery still leave cans of Kirin beer at his grave to pay respect and tribute. Kirin Ichiban can be labeled as a Pale Lager or a American Adjunct Lager and contains 5% alcohol. Poured, Kirin Ichiban lager has a pale golden color and contains a great carbonation.
The fluffy, white, foamy head forms a perfect cloud, with good stability, and a steady amount of lacing. The essence of light malt and crispy noble hops fill the air as you raise the glass to your mouth. The taste of Kirin Ichiban lager is very crispy, smooth, and of light malt. The notes of the noble hops and stewed hops linger around the beer and are faint along with a tad of sweetness. Kirin Ichiban Lager always goes great with Japanese cuisine like Sushi, Tempura, and Sashimi but can be paired with other Oriental and European foods. Kirin is available and distributed around the globe in certain places and is also on tap at various Pubs and Bars.

Hitachino Nest White Ale: Japan
Today we are heading over to Japan to take a gander at Hitachino Nest White Ale. Hitachino Nest is a a brand line of beer that was introduced into the market in 1996 by Kiuchi Brewery. Kiuchi Brewery is located in Ibaraki, Japan and was founded in 1823 by Kiuchi Gihel.
At the time Kiuchi Gihei was the headman of Kounosu village and was collecting rice from farmers as land taxes. Kiuchi Gihel, with the remainder of the rice stocks in the warehouse, had the idea to start a brewery. Kiuchi produces beer, shochu, sake, and combines European beer-making with the traditional Japanese brewing techniques. Hitachino Nest White Ale is one of eleven craft beers from the line of Hitachino Nest and is labeled as a 5%ABV Belgian White Witbier.
Available year round the Hitachino Nest White Ale packs a little bit of Belgium, German, and a Japan in a 12oz bottle. The pour is a cloudy hazy gold with the aroma of orange, lemon, coriander, and fresh herbal notes blasting out of the bottle with not much head. As you put the bottle to your lips you can feel the citrus and orange through out your mouth and the two are beautifully well balanced with the wheat flavor. Hitachino Nest White Ale is very crisp and fresh with light amounts of carbonation making it very easy to drink. The latest development in The Kiuchi Brewery is the wine brewing project. Kiuchi recently bought 4000 square meters of land next to the brewery for a vineyard. No wine has been produced or sold yet but there will be some in the near future.

Sapporo Beer of Japan
Sapporo Breweries Limited has been around since 1876 and is the home brewery to a world known Japanese beer Sapporo. The company has five breweries in Japan as well as a brewery in Canada making it relatively easy to grab a hold of one. Sapporo is classified as a Japanese Rice Lager and is rated the number one Japanese beer. The beer can be found in 12 ounce bottles, 12 ounce cans, and the classic 22 ounce tall boy. The can is one of the amazing and signature parts of the beer, very unique. The beer pours a beautiful clean golden with a large carbonation of bubbles. You can smell the bready malts, apples and the light rice they use during the brewing process. Sapporo is not a very hoppy beer and the taste is super crisp, clean, and light. Some could compare Sapporo to the American Adjunct Lager which isn't bad. So much goes into the brewing process at the Sapporo Brewery and that is why it is a Premium Brew. The concept of Sapporo is to have something good, light, and a beer that will make you want to drink more and the Japanese definitely succeeded in this.
