Sapporo Beer of Japan

Sapporo 22 ounce beer canSapporo beer LabelSapporo Breweries Limited has been around since 1876 and is the home brewery to a world known Japanese beer Sapporo.  The company has five breweries in Japan as well as a brewery in Canada making it relatively easy to grab a hold of one.  Sapporo is classified as a Japanese Rice Lager and is rated the number one Japanese beer.  The beer can be found in 12 ounce bottles, 12 ounce cans, and the classic 22 ounce tall boy.  The can is one of the amazing and signature parts of the beer, very unique.  The beer pours a beautiful clean golden with a large carbonation of bubbles.  You can smell the bready malts, apples and the light rice they use during the brewing process.  Sapporo is not a very hoppy beer and the taste is super crisp, clean, and light.  Some could compare Sapporo to the American Adjunct Lager which isn't bad.  So much goes into the brewing process at the Sapporo Brewery and that is why it is a Premium Brew.  The concept of Sapporo is to have something good, light, and a beer that will make you want to drink more and the Japanese definitely succeeded in this.

Asahi Super dry Beer of Japan

Asahi Breweries has been brewing beer since 1889 and is the leading brewery and soft drink company based in Tokyo, Japan.
The company has a 40% share of the Japanese beer market and brews a variety of different beers along with the award winning, Asahi Super Dry Beer. The first Asahi beer was the draft lager which was first produced in 1892 and then Ashai Gold took its place in 1957. Asahi Super Dry was introduced in 1987 which started the Japanese craze for dry beer.
Asahi Super Dry beer is a Japanese Rice Lager that pours a clear yellow see through gold with a hopping white head, disappearing quickly. As you lean your nose up to the bottle you can catch a tiny bit of malt grainy-ness, and hints of rice.  Other than that, there is not much of a smell to Ashai Super Dry beer. The taste of Ashai is sweet, fruity, grainy, and still has a little bit of hops in it. The beer overall is a very, very light sweet beer with 5% ABV.  Some people like it and some people prefer a heavier beer, but everyone has different taste. Asahi Breweries have a wide variety of beers to try and next time in Japan you should check out a couple of beers they have to offer.

Angkor Beer, Cambodia

Angkor Beer label
Angkor Wat, Cambodia during a sunset
Angkor Beer bottlesToday will be the first day I visit the mysterious country of Cambodia for a beer known as Angkor beer. The pale lager Angkor beer is brewed by Cambrew (Carlsberg) in Sihanoukville, Cambodia. Angkor beer is named after Angkor Wat, a region of Cambodia that was the seat of the Khmer Empire centuries ago around 802 A.D. till 1431 when it was ran-sacked by a rebellion. Angkor Wat was the largest pre-industrial city in the world with 390 miles of temples.   So in the early 1960's the Cambodian government decided to brew and name a beer after these gorgeous temples.  Angkor beer is an exotic beer that ranges from a 5.2% to a 5.5 % ABV. This straw yellow, mild to medium carbonated beer is very clear and you can see right through it.  When you pour, the airy white head is pretty big and makes a fizzing sound. The taste is crispy, malty, sweet, and has the lightest hop finish. The bitterness is low and is perfect for staying hydrated after eating hot Asian food or after a day of running around the Angkorian temple ruins. "My Country, My Beer" is their modo and is written in Cambodian under the Angkor title.  Next time when you are exploring or having a archaeological dig in Angkor Wat grab yourself and ice cold Angkor beer and relive the Khmer dynasty!

Chang Beer of Thailand

Box of chang beer Chang Beer is one of my favorite Asian style lagers I have had. Chang means elephant in Thai and is Thailand's national animal. Chang beer is a very light pale ale. Chang beer is very fizzy with a white head that dies down seconds after you pour it, thats if you know how to pour a beer. Chang beer has a refreshing smell. This 5% lager is light tasting, fresh, crisp and is an amazing summer beer. Chang beer is brewed at The Cosmos Brewery located in Bangkok, Thailand. Statues in Sukhothai, Thailand I would recommend this beer to anybody sitting outside on a patio munching on Thai food or even relaxing by the ocean somewhere. Feel free to leave comments, concerns, or questions on where to buy Chang beer.

Hanoi Beer: Vietnam

Hanoi Beer has been around since 1961 brewed by the Ha Noi Brewery in Vietnam and was usually served at small stands on footpaths or in beer gardens. Bottle of Hanoi Premium Bottle 330ml It pours light golden, and has a very foamy head which disappears quickly. Hanoi Beer has a strong smell, mostly sweet and malty, but the hops can be felt. It has a different taste of sweet and sour bitterness and is extremely thin. Aftertaste is apparently not good and is overly dry. Who said that Beers of the day would only review the good beers? It is a beer none the less.  I would say Hanoi Beer would be great to get trashed with at a BBQ, kind of like our backyard Papst Blue Ribbon parties. 12 Pack Box of Hanoi Beer
